Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State on Thursday said the Lagos-Badagry Expressway would be ready in 2019.
The governor added that the state would
soon give part of the project to a concessionaire who was
expected to
extend the project from Okokomaiko to Seme Border.
Ambode spoke during an inspection of
ongoing projects across the state, adding that the Lagos-Badagry
Expressway expansion was a major economic catalyst for Lagos.
He said, “It is imperative that the
project is accelerated and completed on schedule. It is a 10-lane
expansion project with a provision for rail.
“Our administration is almost at
financial close to give it to a concessionaire who is expected to extend
the project from Okokomaiko to Seme Border.
“I am committed to this project; I am committed to the expansion of the economy of the east area of Lagos.
“By this project, we would also expand
the real estate value and the tourism potentials of the Badagry area. I
am confident that we should have a complete project before the end of
2019,” he said.
While inspecting the road from
Agbelekale to Abesan Estate via Church Street, in the Giwa and Aboru
areas, Ambode expressed satisfaction, but asked the contractor to ensure
the delivery of the project within the first quarter of 2017.
On Irede Road in the Oriade Local
Council Development Area, Ambode was briefed by the Commissioner for
Works and Infrastructure, Ganiyu Johnson, and his Housing counterpart,
Mr. Gbolahan Lawal.
Lawal said a 30-hectare land at Ado
Trade Fair had been designated for 500 housing units which would be
constructed in partnership with the private sector.
Ambode expressed displeasure with the
state of Irede Road, assuring that work would start on the road within
the next four weeks.
