Jesus’s Tomb Opened For First Time In Centuries (See Wow Photo)
Preservation experts have opened for the first time in at least two centuries what Christians believe is Jesus’s tomb inside the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem. Some of the historic work was witnessed by AFP photographer Gali Tibbon who captured images of the site believed to contain the rock upon which Jesus was laid in around 33 AD as it was uncovered as part of ongoing restoration at the site.
A marble slab covering the site, among the holiest in Christianity, was pulled back for three days as part of both restoration work and archaeological analysis, experts on the scene told AFP.
It was the first time the marble had been removed since at least 1810, when the last restoration work took place following a fire, and possibly earlier, said Father Samuel Aghoyan, the church’s Armenian superior.
A painting of Jesus can be seen in the narrow area above where the marble slab was removed.
Debris and material was found beneath the marble and was being further studied, Aghoyan said.
“It is moving in a sense, something we’ve been talking about so many centuries,” Aghoyan told AFP.
National Geographic has been documenting the restoration work which is being carried out by a team of Greek specialists.
It reported that “the exposure of the burial bed is giving researchers an unprecedented opportunity to study the original surface of what is considered the most sacred site in Christianity”.
– Major restoration project –
“My knees are shaking a little bit,” Fred Hiebert, an archaeologist-in-residence at the National Geographic Society, said in a video on the magazine’s website during the work at the shrine.
A shrine was built in the 19th century over the site of the cave where Jesus is believed to have been buried before his resurrection, and it is visited by throngs of tourists and pilgrims each day.
Earlier this year, a major restoration project began on the site, surrounded by a structure called an edicule and located at the centre of the church in Jerusalem’s Old City, underneath its dome.
The project required the agreement of the various Christian denominations that share the church, which also contains the area where Jesus is believed to have been crucified and his body anointed.
The restoration project is expected to be completed around March 2017, in time for Easter, and the site has remained open to visitors for nearly the entire time, although the ornate edicule has been surrounded by scaffolding.
Its marble slabs have weakened over the years, caused in part by the thousands of people who visit daily.
The shrine is being painstakingly dismantled and rebuilt, the Custody of the Holy Land, which oversees Roman Catholic properties in the area, has said previously.
Broken or fragile parts are to be replaced while marble slabs that can be preserved will be cleaned, and the structure supporting them will be reinforced.
The work is being funded by the three main Christian denominations of the Holy Sepulchre — Greek Orthodox, Franciscans and Armenians — and by public and private contributions.

Presidency has no right to question any judge — Okocha
A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mr. Onueze Okocha, in this interview with TOBI AWORINDE, criticises the Presidency for seeking the resignation of judges and justices being probed for alleged corrupt practices
What is your position on the arrest of judges by the Department of State Service?
It is strange and very bizarre. Judges,
including justices of the highest court in the land, are not common
criminals that anybody who wants to arrest would go in the early hours
of the day or at night to arrest them or to execute a search warrant
under very suspicious and irregular circumstances. Secondly, we know
that the body constituted to deal with discipline of the judges is the
National Judicial Council and we all know that all the judges are under a
chief judge, if they are at state (level); the Chief Justice of
Nigeria; or under the President of the Court of Appeal, depending on
their various courts. So, if one wants to invite such judges, one writes
through the heads of their courts to invite them for interrogation or
whatever, before one begins to raid their houses in the night, under the
circumstances which we saw. For me, it is a most unbecoming situation
and I feel very uncomfortable and unhappy about it.
Given the magnitude of the
alleged corruption in the judiciary, some have argued that it would have
been counterproductive to go against the judges using these
conventional methods. Do you think they would have got the same result?
All they have alleged is massive
corruption in the judiciary. It is an allegation. The judiciary’s budget
is not up to one-tenth of the Federation Account, so I don’t know what
they mean by massive corruption. They went to about seven judges’
houses. If there was massive corruption in the judiciary, it is not only
seven judges whose homes would have been raided. I find it really
strange. An allegation is an allegation.
What is your reaction to the presidency’s recent call for the judges who are under investigation to step down?
The presidency has no right or authority
to ask any judge to step down. The judiciary is an independent arm of
the government. They are not under the presidency. The judiciary is
under the heads of its various courts and the authority established to
look after the matters that pertain to their discipline and terms and
conditions of service is the NJC — a constitutional authority
established by our own constitution. The President of the Federal
Republic of Nigeria, with all due respect to him, has no authority to
query any judge. That is the whole idea of the independence of judiciary
and the separation of powers between the three arms of government: the
executive, legislature and judiciary. Can the President query the
President of the Senate? Can he query any senator? People should
understand that we have a constitution in this country and the best
thing to do is to follow due process and abide by all the laws and
provisions of our constitution and other laws that relate to the matter.
Isn’t it a global standard
for public office holders who are under investigation for grievous
allegations to step aside and clear their names out of honour?
I do not think so and I have said so in
so many words. Other countries are not like Nigeria; Nigeria is
peculiarly different from other countries. How many countries do you see
them writing what one would call frivolous and baseless petitions
against judges? How many countries do you see them making false
allegations against judges? So, we must follow due process here. If
there is an allegation against a judge, bring it up with evidence and
let the authorities concerned investigate. If there is a situation where
a judge is being bribed with money, package the money, mark the money
as the police used to do in the olden days and they would be caught
red-handed with the money. Nigeria is different from other countries.
People can resign there because they want to preserve their honour and
integrity and at the end of the day, they would come out and sue whoever
it was that damaged their character. But we have had occasions like
this. Have you forgotten the situation of (former President of the Court
of Appeal) Justice Ayo Salami, who was suspended? Was Salami ever
recalled before he finally bowed out of the judiciary? Nigeria is
different. People make frivolous and baseless allegations here and I
will not say once an allegation is made against anybody, it should
stand. Allegations have been made against the President. Allegations
have been made against the governors. Allegations have been made against
ministers. Have they resigned?
Does the various sums of money in various currencies found in the houses of these judges surprise you?
Personally, I don’t believe that anybody
found those monies in any judges’ houses. It is only the DSS that is
telling us that. Let the judges themselves give their own explanation.
They (DSS operatives) went to execute a search warrant at irregular
hours. What is the integrity of that search warrant execution? Do you
know that even in America, they plant evidence in people’s houses? One
or two of the judges have spoken out that they planted the money in
their houses.
But some of the judges have also claimed money had been offered to them to influence cases. Doesn’t this further implicate them?
Yes, that is why I said we must
investigate. We must have a proper enquiry because they have accused
some ministers and nobody has asked those ones to resign because they
have denied just as the judges have denied. That is why I say we must
have a full public enquiry. It is easy for one to deny that one didn’t
visit a judge.

I Made You A Billionaire, Obasanjo Fires Back At Africa’s Richest Woman, Folorunsho AlakijaBIGGERVIBES Former President Olusegun Obasanjo said on Saturday in Lagos that Mrs Folorunsho Alakija, Africa’s richest woman by Forbes reckoning, was among the 25 billionaires he made during his tenure as President. Obasanjo stated this at the 2016 Tony Elumelu Foundation Entrepreneurship Forum.
According to Vanguard, the former president was reacting to an allegation by Alakija at the event, that the Obasanjo administration frustrated her effort when she ventured into oil business. She alleged administration illegally took an oil block allocated to her company after her family had invested all its savings to strike oil in commercial quantity.“This oil block is in 5000 feet depth of water and was extremely difficult to explore. “It took 15 years from the time that we were awarded the licence in 1993 till 2008 when we struck the first oil “When this event happened, 60 per cent out of our 60 per cent equity in the business, was forcefully taken from us by the government of the day without due process.
“We had to fight back by going to court to seek redress and it took another 12 years for justice to be served in our favour. “In all those years it was my trust in God, my perseverance and the support of my family that got me going,” she said. .
She used her experiences to charge the 2000 budding entrepreneurs at the event to be dogged, determined and not to give up in the face of challenges. When Obasanjo spoke, the former president seized the opportunity to reply to the allegation by Alakija.
“There is a saying in my part of the world that when a proverb touches you and you failed to reply, then you are a coward,” he said.
“For you to come here and say that, for no cause whatsoever, you were denied what was rightfully yours, is not fair. “I do not know you from Adam and there is no reason I would have denied you what rightfully belonged to you.
“So, you have struggled, and you have struck oil. God bless your heart.
“My delight is to be able to create Nigerian billionaire and I always say it that my aim, when I was in government was to create 50 Nigerian billionaires.
“Unfortunately I failed. I created only 25 and Madam, you are one of them,” he said.
Why We’ve Not Arrested Goodluck Jonathan – Vice President Osinbajo Opens Up
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has responded to calls by some Nigerians for the arrest of ex-president Goodluck Jonathan, because almost all those arrested have mentioned Jonathan’s name.VP Osinbajo said the Buhari administration does not arrest “anybody, anyhow”.
Answering questions at a session in Texas, US on Friday, on when Jonathan would be arrested by the government to answer for “looted money” under his watch, Osinbajo said the Buhari administration believes in empowering the security agencies and anti-corruption agencies to do their jobs, without the administration trying to teleguide them.
He also added that the fight against corruption in the country was not fought on ethnic, hasty or pre-mediated grounds.
“Corruption is not an ethnic thing, there is an equal representation in the stealing as no one operates with his/her ethnic group alone. The culprits are in every case seen so far, united by greed to steal and not by ethnic or religious interest,” he said.
He frowned at a situation where Billions of Dollars disappeared from the national coffers into private pockets, saying no responsible government would wave that aside so as not to offend people..............
I bought two human heads for N10,000 — Herbalist
Three persons in possession of two human
skulls have been arrested at a hideout in Ogbomoso by policemen from
the Oyo State Police Command.
The state Commissioner of Police, Samuel
Adegbuyi, said the arrest was made after the police received
information from members of the public, who had raised the alarm that
the suspects were dealing in human parts.
One of the skulls was discovered to have
had what looked like a deep machete cut at its temple, leaving the
police to suspect that the person the head belonged to might have been
gruesomely killed.
Ramoni Akeem, 41, Azeez Ojelade, 36, and Salimon Salami, 40, were the suspects arrested by the police.
Akeem said he paid N10, 000 for the skulls and that Salami was the vendor.
Akeem said, “I am a herbalist and I heal
people with herbs. I have never used body parts for rituals. One day, a
friend came to me and said his friend discovered two corpses on a land
where he had wanted to cut trees. He asked if I knew what body parts
could be used for. I told him that I did not know anything about charms
prepared with body parts.
“One of our friends, Saheed Ifa, who is a
senior herbalist, heard about it and said he could make use of the
skulls to prepare charms. When the skulls were produced, the man who
brought them demanded for N10, 000. I paid him in four instalments. But
that is all I know about the skulls. Ifa has travelled to Lagos. I don’t
know where he lives in Lagos.”
Salami, who claimed to have discovered the corpses, denied any wrongdoing.
He said, “I was asked to cut some trees
on a large piece of land but when I got there, I discovered two corpses
and I told a friend that I was afraid to work on the land because
someone killed two people there. He said I should continue with my work
while he looked for what to do with the corpses. When he got a buyer, he
contacted me and I went back to the bush and dismembered the heads from
the bodies,” he saidSOURCE: PUNCH

With the help of a sign language expert, the wife, Bola, recalled how the suspect tried to kill their first son.
She said:
“I didn’t know that my husband is a cultist. I remember when he first tried to kill our first son, I reported the matter at the Garki Police Station. It was my mother who took the boy away from the house and he is still staying with her in Mararaba, Nasarawa State. Then I had another son last year. When he was two months old, he became sick. My husband killed him in September 2015. I didn’t know until he confessed. This year I had our daughter.
In the night of October 7, 2016, we were together in the house when suddenly he started beating me. I got injured and ran away to his elder sister’s house. Before I came back with his sister, he had strangled our baby to death. He locked the door and ran away. It was policemen from Asokoro Police Station, where I reported the case that broke the door and found the baby. We rushed the baby to Asokoro General Hospital. The doctor said the baby was dead. Now I have only one son left, Josiah Matthew. It was only God who saved me from the power of darkness.”
When interrogated, Matthew who hails from Kwande Local Government Area, Benue State said:
“I got married to my wife, Bola, and we were blessed with three kids. My father is a cultist and he initiated me into the occult. My father asked me to offer the children as sacrifice and mark of honour to him, promising he would make me become rich.
“It was a covenant that nobody knew, even my wife. My father gave me conditions that if anybody got to know or I revealed the covenant, that the covenant would be destroyed. From the time I had my first child, my father began disturbing me to offer my child to him as a sacrifice.
“I tried to kill my first child by strangling, but my wife caught me and reported to the police and her mother came to take the child away from the house. He has been staying with her in Mararaba, Nasarawa State.
Later my father appeared to me after I had my second son, John, who became sick. I strangled him to death in 2015. On October 7, 2016, my father appeared to me again that I should kill my only daughter. I was with my wife and then I started beating her and she ran away to my elder sister’s house and I locked the door and strangulated my four-month-old baby girl and she died.
I locked the entrance of the house and ran away. It was the youth in my area that arrested me and handed me over to the police. I wanted to kill my younger brother according to my father’s instruction. My father is still alive and he is in the village in Benue State.”
The police commissioner who confirmed the incident said the suspect would be charged to court soon.

EFCC To Seize All Properties Belonging To Patience Jonathan
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) said it has concluded plans to confiscate all properties belonging to ex-first lady, Patience Jonathan.
According to reports, the commission discreetly begun investigations into Mrs Jonathan’s finances, mandating its operatives to identify all properties belonging to her after she claimed ownership of the sum of $31.4m found in five Skye Bank accounts.
It would be recalled that the anti-graft agency during investigations froze the former first lady’s Skye Bank personal account containing a balance of $5m.
“It would not be correct to conclude that the commission has halted the investigation into the activities of the former First Lady,” an EFCC source said.
“The investigation is progressing and it is being handled by the office of the chairman of the commission.
“A team of operatives have been assembled to identify all her properties in the country with a focus on Abuja, Port Harcourt and Yenagoa.
“The responsibility of the team is to mark all such properties in preparation for a possible court action,” the source added
